The Articles of Incorporation for South Brevard Water CO-OP, Inc were originally file with the Secretary of State on October 21,1987. The CO-OP is a not for profit organization. It was organized for the purpose of operating a potable water plant and a distribution system in the South Barrier Island of Brevard County. The area is an integral part of the Space Coast and is situated in the midst of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. The beaches are pristine, sunrises are spectacular and wildlife abounds.
The South Brevard Water CO-OP owns and operates a water treatment facility located at 41 Mohican Way, Melbourne Beach, FL 32951. The plant services approximately 1600 residents. A reverse osmosis system is utilized to treat water from any of four on-site wells. The average daily flow is between 72,000 and 76,000 gallons per day. The distribution system extend along State Road A1A from Sunnyland Beach to the Sterling House condo complex on state road A1A, a distance of about two miles. Our water services are provided to residental and commercial customers on both sides of highway A1A.
The governance of the CO-OP is through a board of six directors each elected or appointed from owners of property currently served by the CO-OP. To assure continuity of leadership. one third of the members of the Board of Directors are to be elected each year. The election of directors coincides with the annual meeting which is held in January of each calendar year.
